Уважаемый господин Бах,
Уважаемые члены МОК!
Мы обращаемся к Вам от имени всех спортсменов мира, будущих Олимпийских чемпионов и чемпионов прошлых лет. До последнего времени мы искренне поддерживали МОК в его деятельности, верили в идеалы честности и беспристрастности, которые мы все безоговорочно связывали с Олимпийскими играми и Олимпийским движением в целом.
Для каждого спортсмена, для каждого из нас Олимпийские игры были и остаются вершиной спортивной карьеры, мечтой, ради которой мы не жалели себя на тренировках и соревнованиях, отказывались от общения с друзьями и близкими людьми, от полноценного отдыха и многих других важных жизненных аспектов. Всё это хорошо известно и Вам, бывшему спортсмену и Олимпийскому чемпиону, прошедшему этот путь как все мы.
Несмотря на то, что сейчас всё чаще высказываются мнения о политическом и финансовом давлении на МОК и принимаемые им решения, до последнего времени мы искренне верили в то, что это всего лишь домыслы людей, пытающихся дискредитировать МОК и Олимпийское движение в целом. Мы поддерживали МОК в его борьбе с допингом и стремлении защитить «чистых» спортсменов. Мы были уверены, что, опираясь на Олимпийскую хартию, МОК примет справедливое и беспристрастное решение в отношении любого спортсмена из любой страны мира, замешанного в допинговом нарушении.
Однако, мы были глубоко шокированы и возмущены решением о недопуске на Олимпийские игры тех спортсменов, чья допинговая история является абсолютно чистой. Спортсменов, которые неоднократно доказывали, что они не применяют запрещенные препараты, сдавая многочисленные тесты различным антидопинговым лабораториям всего мира. Спортсменов, которые никогда не запрашивали терапевтическое исключение на использование определённых лекарств. Спортсменов, которые доказали, что всё, чего они достигли на пути к Олимпийским играм, это исключительно результат их ежедневного упорного труда.
Мы обеспокоены тем, что возникшая ситуация наносит непоправимый ущерб не только репутации Международного Олимпийского комитета, но и всему Олимпийскому движению, частью которого мы также являемся. Мы убеждены, что последствием принятого Вами решения станет то, что молодые спортсмены по всему миру потеряют не только веру в непредвзятость и честность Олимпизма, но, самое главное, потеряют цель и стремление к совершенствованию своего спортивного мастерства, чтобы когда-нибудь взойти на Олимпийский пьедестал.
Отказывая сейчас «чистым» спортсменам в их заслуженном праве участвовать в Олимпийских играх, Вы рискуете окончательно разрушить образ Игр как справедливых и честных соревнований, образ, который с большим трудом создавали многие поколения спортсменов и руководителей МОК до Вас.
Мы искренне надеемся, что МОК пересмотрит свое решение в отношении фигуриста Ивана Букина, употребление допинга которым не только не доказано, но который никогда не имели никакого отношения к допинговым скандалам или нарушениям, и, тем не менее, он не были приглашен на Олимпийские зимние игры 2018 года.
Мы верим, что такой поступок позволит вернуть стремительно убывающее доверие к МОК как к независимой и справедливой международной организации, а также позволит молодым спортсменам вновь поверить в мечту и перестать бояться того, что однажды с ними может произойти то же самое.
Open letter of the Olympic champions to the President and members of the International Olympic Committee
Dear Mr. Bach, Dear members of the IOC!
We appeal to you on behalf of all athletes of the world, future Olympic champions and champions of the past. Until recently, we sincerely supported the IOC in its activities, believed in the ideals of honesty and impartiality, which we all unconditionally associated with the Olympic Games and the Olympic movement as a whole.
For each athlete, for each of us, the Olympic Games have been and remain the pinnacle of a sports career, a dream for which we did not spare ourselves in training and competitions, stayed away from socializing with friends and dear ones, did not have proper rest or many other important everyday life things. All this is well known to you, the former sportsman and Olympic champion, who has traveled along this path like all of us.Despite the fact that opinions about the political and financial pressure onto the IOC and its decisions are being increasingly vocalized now, until recently, we sincerely believed that these were just conjectures of people trying to discredit the IOC and the Olympic movement as a whole. We supported the IOC in its fight against doping and the desire to protect "clean" athletes. We were confident that, based on the Olympic Charter, the IOC will make a fair and impartial decision regarding any athlete from any country in the world involved in the doping violation.
However, we were deeply shocked and outraged by the decision to keep those athletes whose doping history is absolutely clean away from the Olympic Games. Athletes who have repeatedly proved that they do not use banned drugs, passing numerous tests by various anti-doping laboratories around the world. Athletes who have never requested a therapeutic exemption for the use of certain medications. Athletes who have proven that everything they have achieved on the way to the Olympic Games is solely the result of their persistant daily hard work.
We are concerned that the situation that has arisen causes irreparable damage not only to the reputation of the International Olympic Committee, but to the entire Olympic Movement, of which we are also a part. We are convinced that the consequence of your decision will be that young athletes around the world will lose not only their faith in the integrity and honesty of Olympism, but, most importantly, they will lose the goal and desire to improve their sports skills in the quest to someday ascend the Olympic pedestal.
By refusing "clean" athletes their earned right to participate in the Olympic Games, you risk completely destroying the image of the fair Games and fair competitions, the image that has been created with great difficulty by many generations of athletes and IOC leaders before you.
We sincerely hope that the IOC will reconsider its decision regarding skater Ivan Bukin, who doping status is “clean” and who never had anything to do with doping scandals or violations, but as of yet they were not invited to Olympic Winter Games of 2018.
We believe that such an act will restore the rapidly diminishing confidence in the IOC as an independent and fair international organization, and will also allow young athletes to believe in a dream again and stop being afraid that one day the same can happen to them.
